Detection error missing KB2934018 for Windows 8.1 Update 1

On systems with Windows 8.1 Update 1 2934018 (KB2919355 release from April 8, 2014), Shavlik Protect (XML data version 2.0.0.7014) reports KB 2934018 as missing, by stating that "the registry key 'SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2934018~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.5\CurrentState' does not exist." - This is the case with Windows 8.1 Update 1 as well as with Windows Server 2012 R2 Update 1.

 

As explained in a WindowsITPro article, "apparently, the KB2919355 release (of) April 8, 2014, includes an update not included with the MSDN/TechNet update available early. Today's release (author's note: i.e. the public release of April 8) has a new file included (KB2934018) not available with the MSDN/TechNet version." Therefore, KB KB2934018 is only necessary for the MSDN/TechNet version installed before April 8.

 

Did you realize this error and will there be a revised XML any soon?

Hi,

 

I've a strange issue here.

I've just upgraded my Shavlik Protect to 9.1 Build 4334 and when I want to scan some machine groups, the first point (Check for new definitions) is green but I've not the MS14-051 (Published: August 12, 2014).

If I try to do Help -> Refresh files, I can see this:

So I found this doc: How to trouble shoot failed to download the latest manifest file issue.

I followed the resolution and I'm able to download the file via IE, but the Refresh File give the same result.

Another thing is that in Help -> About, I have

Data Versions

X 2.0.0.8158

Asset management

ITScripts

V 3.0.56.1

Problems with KB2726535 and KB2731771

Scans are detecting KB2726535 and KB2731771 as missing on Windows 7x64 PCs in my environment, but patch installation fails.  When I try to manually install the update, the Windows Update Standalone Installer package says that 2726535 is already installed, and 2731771 is not applicable on the computer.

 

Anyone else seeing this?

Hi

 

I get an error every time I try to "refresh files" from Shavlik Protect Server that stands in a secure zone.

I assume that this server will contact my other Shavlik Protect Server, that have access to internet!?

 

This is the error I get:

Error: File not downloaded: scriptcatalog.zip

Error reason: File 'C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Console\DataFiles\scriptcatalog.zip' failed signature check: http://x.x.x.x/shavlikdatafiles/scriptcatalog.zip

 

I found an fix for this, and it was to update root certificates, and I have done that, but I still got this error?

 

Anyone have any idea?

Hi,

I realise this is an old patch, but we've been having long term discussions with our DBAs, about whether the patch should be applied or not, if you don't have SQL reporting services, as it also updates SQLSERV.EXE

 

Does anyone have a recommendation.

I'm having this error on one 2008R2 server. I can install the agent but they won't communicate.  I've done the "full agent reinstallation" process and this didn't fix my problem.  I tried the MS fixit tools but they won't run on my machine..Anything else I can try?  attached are my log files.

Hi,

 

I'm trying to upgrade to Protect 9.1.4334 (Windows 8.1) from Protect 9.0.0 Build 1182 (MS Server 2003 R2)

I installed ProtectBackup 9.0.1280 and successfully backed up the Console and the User data.

 

On the new Windows 8.1 install I installed Protect 9.1.4334 and then tried to install ProtectBackup on this system.

It failed to install with the message "WARNING: You must have Protect 9.0.1182 or later installed to use this tool" - I have already installed 9.1.4334!

 

I edited the install script to work with the installed version and it appeared to install but the ST.Backup.Protect.UI.exe doesn't run.

 

Can you help?

Could not read the remote registry: Error 5: Access is denied.

I am trying to install the agent on a workgroup computer from a domain computer and keep getting, "Could not read the remote registry: Error 5: Access is denied."  I am using the correct credentials on the machine, <computer><user> but it will not connect.  What am I missing?  The user name is an administrator on the workgroup machine and I verified the Administrators group has Full Control permissions to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSecurePipeServerswinreg.  The workgroup machine is Windows 7 Professional.

Multiple patch/reboot cycles for hotfix rollup

support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511 says that the hotfix rollup has three regressions.  What I'm seeing is that after applying the rollup, I have to re-apply windows6.1-kb2878378-v[2,3,4]-x64.msu before Protect says I'm up to date (Windows 7, 64-bit).  Problem is, Protect sees these regressions one at a time and wants a reboot after each one.  Is there any way you could detect all 3 regressions in a single scan?

Scan ignoring all new patches

(please excuse if this is a double post, it appears my first post disappeared)

 

We run shavlik on several hundred servers.  We've noticed on a small handful that scans are coming back saying no missing patches, but on closer examiniation, there have been no patches installed for over a year on windows 2008r2.  the process is automated, so this issue didnt come up until we audited the machines.  These servers can be in the same scan group as servers which are being patched correctly - same result if i create an ad hoc group or change from security scan to WU scan.  Could there be some sort of per-server exlusion that someone set up a long time ago?  No agents being used.

 

Any help is appreciated, i'm not even sure how to search for this issue in the KB.

Is it possible to manage scheduled tasks in multiple domains or forests using 9.1 ?

 

We have multiple domains (Test, Dev etc.) that I patch using Protect.  I can define credentials for these domains to scan and patch, however, in previous versions I could not manage scheduled tasks because the system would only use my default credentials to authenticate.  Since these credentials were for a different domain, they naturally failed.  I think this would be "browse credentials"??

 

I thought I saw that this problem was resolved with the current version, is this true?  Is there somewhere I need to set this up?

 

I also have machines and domains show up in the list that no longer exist, how can I remove these?

Patch scan discrepancy in scan results

I'm not sure how to classify this question, but I scanned a Win2008 server using the agent scan.  It found no patches.

Then I ran a Windows update on the server, it found 9 patches, which I patched and rebooted.

I now run a new agent pacth scan and it now sees 7 of the 9 patches.

 

I ran Windows update again to verify and no patches are found.

 

What is causing this delay / discrepancy?

Microsoft Office 2010 & 2013 patch issues

HI,

 

I got deployment issues with the following MS Office 2010 & 2013 patches, Shavlik Protect detects all the following patches as missing but it did not deploy them.

1) KB2878284 - Shavlik Protect says installation failed when I try to deploy through Protect, but Windows says "There is no product affected by this package installed on this system" when I deploy manually.

2) KB2880463 - Protect failed to deploy, but Windows throws up message "There is no product affected by this package installed on this system" when I deploy manually.

3) KB2880991 - Protect failed to deploy, but Windows throws up message "There is no product affected by this package installed on this system" when I deploy manually.

4) KB2881005 - Protect failed to deploy, but Windows throws up message "The Update is already installed on the system" when I deploy manually.

.NET patches show as missing

Most often when I install .Net patches, they show as missing after being patched.

I decide to troubleshoot this on my current server (2012) with protect 9.1 patch 1.  It is showing that it is missing MS14-046 (Q2966828) Vulnerability in .NET framework...

I installed the patch with the standard deployment template, rebooted and rescanned.  It showed as still missing.  I checked the Cl5 log and saw nothing amiss.

I deployed the patch again, except this time with a delay.  I checked between deployment and execution and the patch file was there.  The bat file runs and there are no errors in the log file.

The post deployment scan shows the patch as missing and the comment is "File version is less than expected..."

 

The security auditors are not happy to see patches missing.
