Deployment Tracker stuck in "Scheduled"

I just installed Protect version 9 (build 1182) onto a Win2012 server.  I was able to successfully scan a machine, and deployed all needed patches. When I pulled up the deployment tracker, however, all I see is that the patches are scheduled. It never moves beyond that point, and it has been 40 minutes.  When I look at the  machine, the hard drive light is flashing like crazy, so it's definitely working on something.  I have the remote registry service started on that machine (Win7x64). The deployment parameters indicate that patches should install immediately. What should I be looking for that might provide a clue as to what might be happening and how to correct?  Should I just reboot the machine or rescan to see if anything looks different?


Misleading error message

Today I was getting the message "Connected to a machine with the wrong hostname or domain name."  Turns out the real error was remote registry service not running (it was set to manual).  This was 9.1.0 build 4334 scanning a fresh build of Windows 7 pro.

Is there any way to patch a windows server 2008 domain controller without requiring domain admin?  If so can you please explain how?

Agent results not showing up on Shavlik Console results

Hello everyone, We were previously using Shavlik Condole 8.5 and were installing the Agents on our laptops that were not connected to our network 24/7.  The individual Agent results would show up on the Results on the Shavlik Console which we wanted.  We then upgraded to Shavlik version 9 and I reimaged the original shavlik console with the same computer name and passwords and passphrase.  Now nether the existing laptops (agent version 8.5) or the newly imaged laptops with the new version of shavlik (agent 9.0) is showing up on the Results on the console.  I ran the STAgentManagement.exe -diag agentdiag.txt command and got the following: PASSED - Able to communicate with console.  Any Ideas why the agent results will not show up on the shavlik console results? Database Setup Tool Window freezes

I had an issue while upgrading from Vcenter Protect 8.X to 9.0:

When the installation program called the database setup tool I selected to use an existing database. After pressing next nothing happened and the Database Setup Tool Window got frozen. It behaved strange in that it was unable to receive the focus, could not be activated, moved or resized. It seemed to me as if it had opened a modal dialog which had to be ackowledged. But there was no dialog. The only way out of this was to kill the process with task manager. Afterwards the installation program performed a rollback with the effect that even my 8.0 Installation got lost.

Any idea appeciated !

What causes an unhandled exception error?

One of my customers began getting an unhandled exception error whenever they try to do a scan of machines from a text file in Shavlik Protect Standard. Has anyone ever experienced this issue before? Any help is appreciated. The error message is below.

Running 8.0.0 Build 3743 and just performed a manual agent install on a laptop not in the domain. Can't get it to check in with the server.

Likewise, all my other manual installs are now not in contact with the server since upgrading it to v8, guessing I need to manually install the agent there.

Hi 

This patch keeps showing up as missing by vCenter Protect even though all our machines are installed. Is there a fix coming to fix this reporting error?

Patch progress stays at status scheduled , but no patch gets deployed . Machine progress stays at executing the patch but it never progress.

Using shavlik 9.1 . port 5120 and 3121 is open from bidirectional.

No relevant event id gets logged on the target server.

Could not read the remote registry: Error 5: Access is denied.

I am trying to install the agent on a workgroup computer from a domain computer and keep getting, "Could not read the remote registry: Error 5: Access is denied."  I am using the correct credentials on the machine, <computer><user> but it will not connect.  What am I missing?  The user name is an administrator on the workgroup machine and I verified the Administrators group has Full Control permissions to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSecurePipeServerswinreg.  The workgroup machine is Windows 7 Professional.

Microsoft Lync patches (Lync closes without warning)

Can the MS Lync patch install process be managed in a way that does not close the application without notice?  Users can be greatly impacted as current conversation windows are closed when Lync closes and are not restored.

MS Updates are listed multiple times in Win2008R2?

Hello Forum.   More of a general observation question than anything, seeing that this application deals with updates.   I am experiencing this on multiple Win2008R2 servers, and it's not always the same MS update #.   I have ruled out Shavlik, as it happens when I manually install an update.

When scanning thru the updates in the View Installed Updates window, I am seeing identical entries for updates.   They seem to be more prevalent for Office and Lang Packs.  Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon and received confirmation from Microsoft that this is an "known issue" or a bug with the program?

How to scan by FQDN or IP (not Machine Name)

Having problems talking to my client.  Shavlik will be able to tell me what patches are installed and what's missing. But if I attempt to run a Patch Scan it gives me Error 201.

 

Now I've been looking at this for the past hour and I have narrowed down the fact that if I RDP (through the Shavlik console) to the client I can do this by IP address.  But it will error out if I attempt to try this using simple machine name.

 

Unless I can make the machine name show up as the FQDN (machine.sub.domain) this doesn't work with RDP.

 

So... when I run a patch scan it appears my only option is by the simple machine name and it doesn't fully work.

 

Is there a way to change this within Shavlik?  I bet if I can get it to scan using the FQDN or IP...  I bet it'll work just fine.

Upgrade database 8 to 9 problem

I've got problems upgrading my database from 8 to 9. I followed the directions in SKB 5607. I can live with losing my old results but would like to keep my groups and configuration etc.

 

I guess there is a problem with converting dates (European notation, could that be the issue?)

In the 8 version I already minimised the results to 10 each but to no avail.

I could delete the entries in the sql studio express but that could be rather error prone.

Remote Desktop connections must be allowed

Within the installation guide, for Clients (agentless) it states as a configuration requirement that "Remote Desktop connections must be allowed in order for the console to make an RDP connection with the target machine".  Am I correct to assume that is only needed for the Right-Click>Connect via RDP... context menu choice?

 

I'm thinking it's not the console but rather me, via the console initiating the RDP session.

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed; Errror 2714 State 6 Severity 25.

Windows patches applied to a physical 2003 server running SQL 2008 Enterprise at around 7.00am

 

We used VMware Protect Essentials to deploy the patch using the shutdown SQL an IIS service options.

 

Patch 'SQLServer2008-KB2716433-x86.exe' was insatlled and SQL Server shutdown and we are in a left in a position where we cannot restart any of the services

 

Windows Event Log displayed error: Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' encountered error 2714, state 6, severity 25. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline, If the error happened during the upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.

 

The above sql patch changed our version of SQL Server 2008 From ‘1033 196609 4311’ to ‘1033 196609 4371’

 

We tried to start up sql server in single user mode from command prompt using the /f or /m options but were unable to restore the master database to a backup from yesterday. It errored. We got an error saying the master db needed restoring (I think that was misleading, as it works with /t902) but when we tried to, following the KB articles to restore the Master db, we got a new error saying the versions where different.

 

We were unable to get the sql server started so we uninstalled the update SQL Patch from windows add/remove hoping it would solve the issue once we rebooted but this did not work.

 

Finally we decided to use the /T902 trace flag on startup for all our sql services (we ran this from the command line and did not update the start up parameters through the SQL Server Configuration Manager – unable to get this to work).

 

Current version of SQL: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP2) - 10.0.4311.0 (Intel X86)   May 11 2011 14:52:29   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 <X86> (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

 

We are now up and running by manually starting the SQL services using the command 'net start <service> /T902', but if we remove the /T902 flag we are back to the script level upgrade error message and unable to restart sql server services.

Shared credentials in Protect 9

My consultant had setup dozens of groups and applied various credentials to all of them.  When I look at the groups, the credentials show as "No".

 

He claims to have setup the credentials as shared and that I should see them in Credentials Manager, but I don't.  When I added them as shared on my profile, it warned me that I was overwriting his shared credentials.  For him, he can still see them applied to the machines but I still do not.

 

One of three shared credentials is a domain account and when I edit/change it to shared, I get no prompt as with the other two but then the consultant sees it as not shared.

 

When other admins login to the console with their AD creds, Credential Manager shows nothing and machine groups show nothing.  The plan was to rotate through as many as 19 admins but this appears to not be a workable method.

No other patches will deploy when one patch gets the below error.

The error states that "Patch download failed - retry scheduled.  No other patches will deploy when one hangs like this.  It will simply sit on executing but will go no further.

 

We recently moved Shavlik to a WIndows 2012 server.  We have checked credentials and they all look good.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.
