Custom Action Deployment not working

$

I've been trying to use the null patch to call a .bat file that I have used successfully in the past, but the deployment fails.  I then tried to use it just to remove the scheduler, which had also been set up previously and was working.  Neither operation will work.  Following are the errors I receive:

Error: File not downloaded: nullpatch.exe

Error reason: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.: http://xml.shavlik.com/noop.exe

Zero patches are available and properly signed.

No patches were deployed. Please review the program logs to determine the cause.

Patch deployment canceled due to failure building deployment instructions.

Error on machine 'mypc': Failed

I don't use this often, so I may well be missing something stupid, but as I've used two previously successful deployment templates, I am confident that they are ok.  Thanks, in advance, for any thoughts!

I have several W2K8 R2 servers were KB3003743 was installed successfully, but a scan afterwards detects it as missing.

Adobe flash player plugin

Hi all,

I am attempting to install Adobe Flash Player Plugin for Firefox via Shavlik. We use a custom template to deploy new software such as Foxit, Firefox and etc... We are able to install Adobe Flash Player (ActiveX) as it is in the list of available software as a "Software Distribution". It appears as shown below in the software selection list.

True    APSB13-11    09/04/2013    09/04/2013    QAF117700169N    Software Distribution    Security updates available for Adobe Flash Player

However, I am unable to find the "Plugin" version of this software as Software Distribution. I need to deploy that version as well as the activeX version. Does anyone have any ideas of what I am missing, or doing wrong?

Thanks everyone.

I am trying to scan a remote vm.

The vm is hosted by ESX 4.1 and has been added to the hosts in Protect.

I have supplied admin credentials.

I have confirmed that server and workstation services are running.

I can connect to the registry remotely.

I have previously allowed the needed ports.

File & Print sharing is on.

I don' t see any blocks on our firewalls.

I'm not sure where to proceed.

I upgraded to Protect 9.0 and when I attempt to run a scan I keep getting the following error message.  "Failed to update the database with new definitions".  Any ideas on how to fix this issue.

I reinstalled the build, and also created a new database. I am still getting the same error.

How do I fix Error Code 270?

How to scan by FQDN or IP (not Machine Name)

$

Having problems talking to my client.  Shavlik will be able to tell me what patches are installed and what's missing. But if I attempt to run a Patch Scan it gives me Error 201.

Now I've been looking at this for the past hour and I have narrowed down the fact that if I RDP (through the Shavlik console) to the client I can do this by IP address.  But it will error out if I attempt to try this using simple machine name.

Unless I can make the machine name show up as the FQDN (machine.sub.domain) this doesn't work with RDP.

So... when I run a patch scan it appears my only option is by the simple machine name and it doesn't fully work.

Is there a way to change this within Shavlik?  I bet if I can get it to scan using the FQDN or IP...  I bet it'll work just fine.

Problem pushing out patches to machines from both agent and console

$

Hello,

Looking for some help on Shavlik Protect and patching our user machines. Been trying to get this sorted for quite a while and haven't cracked it.

All of our user machines have agents installed that are set up with a template to patch all security and non-security patches. We have all security and non-security patches downloaded to a patch group that this looks at. When we first deploy the machines, we install the agents and run a manual scan from them and this seems to work fine. What we find over time, is that looking at the machine list all of our machines have a varying number of missing patches and we don't know why these won't install. If we run a manual scan of the agent task, it detects that the patches are missing, approves them for deployment and then ends patching process without any error or attempt to install them. No idea where to start with this one?

I've also tried to manually deploy the patches from the console, which has its own issue. From the console, these missing patches seem to work if I try to push them out with an immediate reboot after patching but what I want to achieve is that they install in the background and then the reboot is down to when the user reboots their own machine. When trying to manually patch them like this with a template that never reboots after execution, I then find that the patches sit as 'Scheduled' and then never install, eventually moving back to 'missing patches' after a certain amount of time.

Any help on where to start with both of these would be great.. Ideally we'd like the agents patching the machines automatically but at the moment neither method is working and we are left with a large amount of patches missing across all our machines.

Thanks..

SQL Server Query Operation Timed Out

The past few times  when performing a security patch scan I recieve this SQL error.

"A database operation failed.  Please verify you can connect to the configured database."

"A SQL Server query operation timed out.  Consider increasing the command timeout in the configuration file."

Since I was not the person who installed/setup Shavlik, I'm not to sure where to begin looking to resolve this issue.  All scans I have done (about 6-7 since this error popped up) have turned out OK, all machines that are normally scanned are sucessfully scanned, and I have been able to push patches just fine, however I don't want this error to bite me in the long run.  If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.  I have linked an attachment of the error message below.

Thanks in advance

Hello, 2 main problems I have with Shavlik Protect

1.

All the features like patch scan and asset scan for a remote computer doesnt work from machine view.

(right click and choose operation), It gives me error 201.

However, in non-machine view (when I click on the computer group and then 'run operation' and choose operation) everything is ok.

I dont know what is the problem.

2.

In the same remote computer. I installed an agent.

[Have to say that it wasnt easy because I needed to register from the remote machine to the console manually (havn't figured it out yet why) and then needed to check-in (wasn't easy also, clock sync stuff...).]

From the consol's machine I try now to make operations from the agent menu like - 'preform check in' , 'assign policy' etc.. and it gives me an error 'Agent didnt respond'. I am trying again and again do stuff like manual check-in, restart to services related, restart to both computers etc..firewalls off..

The 2 computers are in differrent local networks like 4.4.4.4/24 and 6.6.6.6/24

WHEN THE 2 COMPUTERS ARE ON THE SAME NETWORK EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECT. LIKE 4.4.4.4/24 AND 4.4.4.3/24.

I dont know why those problems occur. All connections between computers seems to be fine. Kind of desperate.

Help please,

Best regards.

Ron Daniel.

Do you guys and gals actually review patches before approving/deploying them?

We're struggling to find out how we should best handle this and how others are handling things.

Right now we only apply Security Patches and Security Tools. We haven't jumped into the Non-Security Patches due to the sheer quantity.

How is everyone else doing this?

So right now, if I scan my workstations for missing "Security Patches and Security Tools" I come up with 114 unique missing patches and a total of 3132 for all 120 systems.

2015-01-13_13-17-19.jpg

Then, if I scan that same group of computers, but only look for missing "Non-Security Patches" my numbers go through the roof. 513 additional, unique patches and a whopping total of 12,816 for these same 120 systems, and this is ON TOP of the security patches.

So, do you apply all patches in your environment? Security, Security Tools, Non-Security?

How do you possibly review all of these without having a massive staff? (Who has the time to review 513 patches and understand what each one does?)

Do you have a change control board/process in place? Do they review patches?

Just trying to learn what everyone else is doing. Security auditors are beating us up because we have some patches missing but most of those missing patches are Non-Security Patches (so they should not matter for a security audit) but they are are dinging us for not applying them anyways.

Just looking for feedback.

Error download scriptcatalog.zip

Hi

I get an error every time I try to "refresh files" from Shavlik Protect Server that stands in a secure zone.

I assume that this server will contact my other Shavlik Protect Server, that have access to internet!?

This is the error I get:

Error: File not downloaded: scriptcatalog.zip

Error reason: File 'C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\Shavlik Protect\Console\DataFiles\scriptcatalog.zip' failed signature check: http://x.x.x.x/shavlikdatafiles/scriptcatalog.zip

I found an fix for this, and it was to update root certificates, and I have done that, but I still got this error?

Anyone have any idea?

When deploying patches, some HP machines hang during reboot

$

We mostly have HP 4300 Pro and 6200 Pro work stations. It seems that when we push patches to some of the machines, they hang during reboot. This is both during pre-reboot or post-reboot. The machine goes down (black screen), but at the point when the power should cycle it just hangs. It never goes to the post screen. At this point, the user has to hold the power button in order to manually shut the machine down and then start it back up normally. This becomes a big problem when we have developers or support staff who access their machines remotely. Have you seen this before? If so, what is the cure? If not, what troubleshooting steps do you recommend?

Shavlik Crashing ESXi server when scanning.

Hey All,

We are currently running (3) ESXi 5.1.0

We have a VM running the shavlik protect. Whenever we scan the 3rd server (Just so happens that that server hosts the VM with shavlik on it) it will PSOD.

Wanted to know if anyone's come across that. If perhaps, shalvik is not supposed to the server it is on? or if there's some settings we missed? Any help guiding us to the right direction would be appreciated.
